A Gentle Yet Terrifying Slaughter

A Gentle Yet Terrifying Slaughter

As the armies of Assyria surrounded the kingdom of Judah, Hezekiah met with his men. As his men were brainstorming, they noticed a river on the map that gave water to the surrounding armies. The King ordered them to dam it and the armies of Assyria had nothing to drink. While Judah prepared for an attack, Sennacherib sent men to taunt and divide the people of Judah. 2 Chronicles 32:20-21
In our prior reading, we were introduced to Hezekiah, Judah’s most righteous king to ever live. He broke the patterns of idolatry and unfaithfulness of those before him and restored the temple and the people’s hearts for the Lord. Though he was not perfect, he held tightly to God all his days. Today we’ll see how even in the midst of a bright time for Judah, evil still lurked nearby. The Assyrians eye the kingdom of Judah, but God is faithful to Hezekiah and his people and shows He will fiercely protect His children.
