Burning the Scroll

Burning the Scroll

After the death of Josiah, Judah was left without a righteous king. This led Jeremiah to speak the Word of God with increased urgency. He urged the people to repent before it was too late, but the people refused to listen and instead beat him and made a fool of him. Knowing that this message was both for now and for the generation to come, he called for Baruch to write down the message God had been giving him. But when the word of God came to the house of the King, he burned it piece by piece.

Jeremiah 36:28
In our last episode, we heard of Jeremiah’s calling to be God’s voice to the people of Judah. Speaking God’s truth was a lonely, and often painful task, but one that Jeremiah took on with courage, even when he became weary. Today we’ll hear more of Jeremiah’s life and ministry proclaiming God’s truth. His words will be recorded onto a scroll, preserved for future generations. But as we’ve already seen, Jeremiah would face anger and hostility, and there would always be those trying to silence the voice of God.
