Gehazi

Gehazi

Naaman, now joyfully and powerfully aware of God, rushed to Elisha to proclaim his allegiance to the God of Israel and to give gifts to Elisha. But Elisha would take no gifts for this was a generous act of God. So Naaman departed with dirt from Israel so that he may worship The God of Israel, in his home country. But even in such a moment of joy, evil was at work. Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, gave in to his greed and pursued Naaman for gifts of his own. Little did he know that God saw this and made it known to his master. Gehazi and his descendants would be forced to carry the consequences of his actions forever.

2 Kings 5:27
In the previous episode, we heard about Namaan, the Syrian commander who sought to heal his leprosy from the prophet Elisha in Israel. Despite his initial reluctance and signs of prideful thinking, Naaman finally acted in faith and saw God’s glory on display as his skin was completely healed. Today we’ll pick up where we left off yesterday and hear how Naaman responded to his healing, and how Elisha’s servant Gehazi gives in to corrupted thinking and deceit. He’ll suffer a painful consequence for his choice, and become an example of God’s judgment for greed and dishonesty.
