The Bond of Friendship

The Bond of Friendship

David and Jonathan met together outside of the city, for David was afraid to enter it anymore lest Saul finds him and make another attempt on his life. Though Jonathan could hardly believe that his dad still meant to kill him, he agreed to cover for David. 1 Samuel 20:38
In our story yesterday we saw how Saul’s jealousy spilled over into a thirst for death, David’s death to be specific. Saul could not take the adulation and growing respect the people had for David and the loss of his kingdom that he could see coming. So he tried to kill David again, sending the young man fleeing into Samuel’s territory. David was protected not only by God but by Saul’s own household – his son Jonathan and David’s wife Michal, the daughter of Saul. Today we’ll see how Saul continues to pursue David and how Jonathan again protects the life of his dear friend, even as his father Saul comes hard against David.
